Gil Scott-Heron – I’m New Here

Wow so Ash over at Evolution and Flashback brought some info to my attention. After a turbulent decade for Gil Scott-Heron in and out of the big house Gil is back with a new album entitled I’m New Here on a new record label XL Recordings due out February 8th. Lets hope Gil can have a much better decade than the last as his spoken word and poetry is highly respected and enjoyed. Gil has influenced so much about modern music culture and his social and political messages and views have directly influenced genres and sub genres such as conscious rap music. Gil also has a new book set for release in 2011.

The video for “Me and the Devil” a very dark track but full of interesting subtle nuances and some fantastic Gilesque crooning. The video is also an exceptional piece of art in its own right. The video was directed by Coodie & Chike and Michael Sterling Eaton.
