The Socotra Islands are a small archipelago made up of of four islands in the Indian Ocean off the coast of the Horn of Africa some 190 nautical miles south of the Arabian peninsula. They are extremely isolated, so much so that a third of its plant life is found nowhere else on the planet. It has been described by many as the most alien-looking place on Earth.
Below are some pictures of the rare plants and scenery found on this crazy island.

Socotra is considered the “jewel” of biodiversity in the Arabian Sea. The long geological isolation of the Socotra archipelago and the fierce heat and drought witnessed by the islands have combined to create unique and spectacular plants and trees.

I think there is a new number one on my list of places I’d like to visit!
